First, learn about the bills of vital importance to both our wild and domestic horses:
Click here for an explanation of both H.R. 503 and S. 727 (Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act).
Click here for an explanation of H.R. 1018 (passed) and S. 1579 (Restoring Our American Mustang Act. R.O.A.M.).
Click here for an explanation of H.R. 305; (Transportation Safety Act).Next, find out who your legislators are by clicking here or by calling 800-828-0498.
Now, find out if your legislators have already cosponsored the bills or not:
Click here for House Bill H.R. 503 (Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act).
Click here for Senate Bill S. 727 (Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act).
No cosponsors yet for Senate Bill S. 1579 as it is new (Restoring Our American Mustang Act, or R.O.A.M.).
Now take 15 minutes to call your senators and representatives and urge them to cosponsor all of these bills.
Ask to speak with the legislative aid who goes about the bill. Ask then to log the call and get the information to the senator or representative (if you do not ask this specifically they just say, "yeah yeah yeah," and never log your call).
This is the most powerful option, as Congress counts each letter as the opinion of 10 constituents.
Write or copy a letter and send and email and fax it to your own legislators and after that to as many legislators and senators as you can. For this purpose, please click here for a pre-written sample letter for you to copy and edit.
Send a copy of your original letter to: Respect 4 Horses, P.O. Box 13155 Prescott, AZ 86304 for delivery to the President and your Legislators.
